Lagos State Government installs additional 1,000 CCTV.

The Lagos State government is set to install additional 1,000 Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to enhance security and also adding to the initial 1,000 CCTVs.

The state said it has also acquired 27 functional collapsible video walls to interpret the camera visuals.

"There will be 100 of such rooms across the state and as I am talking, renovation work at the resource rooms is at 95 per cent completion. Installation of solar panel is still on-going and the digital asset management software is presently being installed on the computer systems at the various police stations,"

The state's Commissioner of Science and Technology, Fatai Mabadeje, said: "It should be noted that the deployment of these cameras is not an assurance that crimes will not be perpetrated, but it will make the job of security personnel easier."

He disclaimed the report that the federal government is making it difficult for the state to mount cameras on federal infrastructure.

"The cameras are there; they are doing well. It is a huge project but, I need to add that CCTV is one component of intelligence gathering. It makes it difficult for somebody to commit crime and go scot- free," he said.
